5 Steps to Better Online Writing

Better Online Writing

The following are five steps you can take to better your online writing. They include: Doing some research online; Knowing the audience you are writing to; Understanding that writing online is different; Beginning with a summary of your content; Using everyday words when writing your content. I will explain each of the following steps and why you should implement them in your online writing.

1. DO SOME RESEARCH ONLINE

Do Some Online Research

This is a simple task cause, as you are writing online, you can use web search engines e.g. Google or Bing to research more on any topic of your choice. These online research tools are very resourceful as you will find any topic already addressed by some professional in that field. You should take facts from them and come up with your own content rather than copy directly from them.

2. KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

Know Your Audience

This too is self-explanatory! When deciding on what to write about, you should already have some idea to who your topic appeals to. If not, consider step one and find out who your topic resonates with. These will make your writing more realistic to its readers.

3. UNDERSTANDING THAT WRITING ONLINE IS DIFFERENT

Understanding That Writing Online Is Different

Many of us come from offline writing world e.g. on print materials which always contain long explanations, technical staff throughout, where time for the readers is not a factor when the content is created.

In online writing, many other factors of writing remain totally different. For example, online writing is different from other types of writing because a writer can include other media types e.g. images, videos, audio, etc. to convey your message instead of using long text explanations.

It is also made in such a way you can skim through so as to save time.

4.BEGIN WITH THE SUMMARY

Always Start With The Summary

In online writings, readers skim through the content and if they don’t find whatever they are looking for, they will for sure drop that content and find another one. To make your content readable, break down your content into simple headlines to show your readers on what to expect. Also, remember to follow up your promise.

5. USE EVERYDAY WORDS

Use Everyday Words

For you to convey your massage perfectly to the right group of people, you have to use the right language.

This means you should not use a language or jargon which only you yourself understand in your online writing. This will help you get your facts straight to your intended readers.

There are many other steps you can take on improving on your online writing but by following the above steps, your online writing can stand out and convey the intended message to its preferred readers in a simple but effective way.
